Radiation therapy involves the use of x-rays or radionuclides in the treatment of certain types of cancers and other serious health conditions. However, this highly effective treatment procedure is also a risky one, and it can cause a number of distressing side effects, some of which are almost as bad as the symptoms of the condition that it is trying to treat. Patients undergoing radiation therapy can expect to experience one or more of the following symptoms: fatigue, rashes, scarring, permanent pigmentation, appetite loss, diarrhea, tissue inflammation, organ damage, and loss of white blood cells. For the pain associated with radiation therapy, marijuana may prove to be beneficial. Marijuana may also help quell the nausea that often results from treatment.
