Diverticulitis is a condition wherein the diverticula in the intestinal linings become infected. The condition is especially uncomfortable when it occurs in the large intestines and the colon. Regardless of the area affected, diverticulitis is a very painful and distressing condition. It is thought to be caused by a fiber-deficient diet, which causes the person to strain when moving his bowels. This causes the formation of diverticula pouches in the colon, where fecal matter may accumulate and cause an infection. The most common symptoms of diverticulitis are abdominal pain, diarrhea, gassiness, fever, poor appetite, constipation, and nausea.
Although marijuana does not address the cause of diverticulitis or the condition itself, it may provide considerable relief from the pain.
