Ankylosis is a condition characterized by stiffness in the joints. It is caused by adhesion in parts of the joints, which tend to become rigid with age. Because of the fragile nature of the joints and of the muscles and tendons around them, ankylosis patients have an increased risk of injuring those areas. In severe cases, surgery may be necessary to restore mobility and movement to the patient.
