The term “alcohol abuse” is commonly used in reference to the excessive and/or frequent use of alcohol to the extent that it has an effect on the person’s health. This effect may be physical, mental, emotional, or all three. Alcohol abuse can take on many forms. Some people opt to drink almost continuously for several days, while others drink excessively within a short period of time in order to get drunk as quickly as possible. Alcohol abuse is a common symptom of alcoholism, and it can cause serious physical and/or mental conditions.
Some studies indicate that marijuana consumption does not cause lasting physical or mental harm or dependency. In some cases, marijuana use maybe a preferable alternative to alcohol abuse.
